Choose die-cast alu or machined alu?

The difference of choose die-cast aluminum or machined aluminum?

The main differences between die-cast aluminum and machined aluminum are processing methods, materials, appearance, thermal conductivity, cost and production efficiency

Processing method: Machining aluminum usually refers to the direct cutting and milling of aluminum through CNC and other methods to get the required shape. The die casting aluminum is by injecting the molten aluminum liquid under high pressure, filling the Mold to cool and solidified to get the finished product.

Material: In aluminum die casting, not all aluminum can be die cast, and good fluidity is suitable for die casting. Commonly used are ADC12, ADC14, aluminum silicon ten magnesium, A360, A380 and some and these grades of composition close to the grades.

For machined aluminum, alloys such as 6063 or 6061 are commonly used.

Die casting.jpgAppearance: Die-cast aluminum can be made into products of any shape, similar to the injection Molding process of plastic. In contrast, machined aluminum mostly uses the same cross-section shape, and the appearance changes less.

Thermal conductivity: The thermal conductivity of die-cast aluminum alloy is generally about 80-90W/m·K, while the thermal conductivity of machined aluminum is between 180-190W/m·K.

Cost: The cost of die casting aluminum is relatively high because of the need for specialized Molds and equipment. The cost of Machining aluminum depends on the specific processing complexity and the price of the material.

Production efficiency: Die-cast aluminum is suitable for mass production and has high production efficiency. The production efficiency of machined aluminum is lower and the production quantity is small, especially when the part shape is complex.

Size of Precision and surface quality: high dimensional accuracy and surface quality can be obtained by Machining aluminum; The accuracy and surface quality of die-cast aluminum are relatively poor, but can be improved by post-processing

Usage: Die-cast aluminum is widely used in automobile, street lamp and current mobile phone industry. Aluminum in cars is used in floor lamps, chandeliers and doors and Windows. Machined aluminum is mainly used for more parts, such as machinery, equipment, fixtures and so on.

In summarize, machined aluminum and die-cast aluminum differ in several ways, and the choice depends on the specific application needs, cost considerations, and the required production rate.
